Cheat Sheet

Cheat Sheet for things you might forget:

  • There 6 modes in total that are controlled internally using onboard knobs, depending on the colour of the Illuminati LED the functionality will be switched.

  • BLUE: knobs control the sample decay, from very short to infinite.

  • DIM BLUE: knobs control sample volume.

  • RED: knobs control sample pitch offset.

  • DIM RED: activate sample looping by turning the knob CW past 12:00, disable by turning the knob fully CCW.

  • FUCHSIA: select a sample within the bank, up to 24 samples.

  • DIM FUCHSIA: enable reverse playback by turning the knob fully CW, disable by setting it to the fully CCW position.

  • To save the settings of the modes above scroll through these modes once and everything will be remembered on the next power up.

  • To switch the sample bank hold press the Bank button, the Illuminati LED will blink 1/2/3/4 times BLUE for banks 1-4 and will blink 1/2/3/4 times RED for banks 5-8.

Overview

Two of Cups consists of 2 identical sample player voices with zero-latency playback, each having cv control over Pitch, Gate and Meta sample scan. Additionally each channel features a Parameter knob that can set the Decay of the internal ASR Envelope (min. 10 ms/max. 10 sec), Sample volume, Pitch Offset with +- 2 octaves, Sample Select over 24 samples, enable / disable Looping and Reverse playback.

Front panel controls

Pitch CV inputs: cv input is for the Pitch of the sample, which follows 1v/oct scaling in range -3...+3V (6 octaves), pitch voltage value added to the manual pitch offset selection knob (red mode). This lets you play the samples melodically using a sequencer or a keyboard. You can adjust the v/oct scale in the settings/pitch_1/2.txt file on the SD card.

Gate inputs: used to trigger the samples, and since the internal envelope is an ASR envelope, you can vary the length of the sample by adjusting the length of the Gate.

Meta cv inputs: accepts cv signals in the range of -5V...+5V. If no CV is applied and no manual sample offset is selected using the Parameter knob, the first sample of each voice’s folder is chosen.

Clock input: When there is a clock signal applied to the CLOCK IN* jack, the buttons trigger rolls following the clock.

Audio outputs: Each voice has a dedicated audio output, but if no cable is plugged into the Voice 2 audio output, both voices will be summed to the output of Voice 1. Voice 1/2 jack outputs are compatible with the airplane stereo adapter** for further ease of routing. **when using stereo samples, only left channel is played.

Modes:

Summary

To switch the functionality of the Parameter knobs press the Bank button to scan through 6 available modes shown by the LED.

  • BLUE - Sample decay
  • DIM BLUE - Sample volume
  • RED - Sample pitch
  • DIM RED - Sample Looping, disable by setting the Param knob CCW and to enable - fully CW.
  • FUCHSIA - Sample Selection over available samples, up to 24 samples.
  • DIM FUCHSIA - Sample reverse, disable by setting Param knob CCW and to enable - fully CW.

To save the position of the Parameter knob in each mode, quickly scan through all the modes by short pressing the Bank button. The next time you power up the module the settings will be remembered independently for each bank.

Sample Banks:

Two of Cups has 8 banks of samples, each bank holds 24 samples per voice. To switch the bank hold press the Bank button. Audio files need to be 8 or 16 bit PCM WAVE files with arbitrary sample rate. The sample order is automatically sorted by the module in the same order as you put them inside of the SD card.

You can see which bank is selected by the colour and number of blinks of the LED. For example Bank 1 will be shown by 1 blink of LED with Blue colour, Bank 2 will blink BLUE twice and bank 4 will blink BLUE 4 times. Banks 5-8 will blink RED 1-4 times.

Additionally the SD card contains configuration files for Pitch scaling / Offset and Trigger delay, which are applied globally. These settings are created upon firmware update and can be changed only by either reflashing the new firmware or deleting them off the SD card:

  • /settings/pitch_1.txt and pitch_2.txt Sets the tuning stretch in case you wish to calibrate each of the 1v/oct pitch cv inputs. Default value is: -0.27 Values range: +/-0.5

  • /settings/pitch_offset1.txt and pitch_offset2.txt Sets the pitch offset value for each voice, provides additional control for 1v/oct calibration. This value is created after an update or after deleting these files from the SD card. Make sure no cable is patched to the 1v/oct input so that the module can set these offset correctly.

  • /settings/delay_1.txt and delay_2.txt Value in the file sets the trigger delay amount in milliseconds. Default value is 0 msec. Max. value is 1000 msec (1 second). Average needed delay to sync the samples in time with your sequencer: around 20 msec.

Firmware Update:

Download the latest firmware here: https://www.endorphin.es/modules/p/two-of-cups

  • Power OFF you modular system.
  • Eject the microSD card from the module. Insert it into the computer.
  • Connect the audio output from your computer headphones output or phone to one of the audio inputs on the module with simple mono or stereo cable.
  • Unpack the downloaded archive and place the toc-firmware.hex file into the root folder of the microSD card. Don't rename the file in any other name. Put the card back into the module and turn ON the power of your modular system.
  • The LED will light up in fuchsia colour and you will hear an ascending tone from VOICE 1 OUT. After approximately 10 seconds the module will reboot with the new firmware installed.
