Trigger Mode

Select by holding the PLAY button and moving the yellow FILE encoder until the PLAY LED is lit solid red. Make sure no CV is attached to the CV in jack.

• Rising trigger edge initiates playback of sample from beginning to end.
• New trigger pulses will interrupt playback and retrigger from beginning of sample.
• Very low latency, recommended for use with percussive sequenced sounds.

Gate Mode

Select by holding the PLAY button and moving the yellow FILE encoder until the PLAY LED is lit solid blue. Make sure no CV is attached to the CV in jack.

• Rising edge of gate initiates playback of sample. Playback continues as long as gate is held high. Playback stops when gate goes low.
• Audio fades in and out (~10ms) to remove clicks.
• Good for processing very long samples that do not require tight timing.

Fade Mode

Select by holding the PLAY button and moving the yellow FILE encoder until the PLAY LED is flashing blue. Make sure no CV is attached to the CV in jack.

• Rising trigger edge initiates playback of sample from beginning to end with short fades on the head and tail.
• New trigger pulses will fade out current audio before fading in new audio to remove clicks from audio discontinuities.
• Useful for sounds that have little high frequency content where the 'click' is more obvious and distracting if not removed. Some slight latency added due to the fading process.

Looping Mode

Select by holding the PLAY button and moving the yellow FILE encoder until the PLAY LED is flashing red. Make sure no CV is attached to the CV in jack.

• Sending a trigger (or pressing PLAY) will start playing a continuous loop.
• Re-triggers reset playback to start of the audio file.
• Selecting a new audio file with the FILE knob will stop playback.
• In addition to drum and sequencer loops, this mode is great for turning ONE nto a CV generator with LFO, noise or other waveforms. It can also act as a VCO with single-cycle waveforms.

Sequence Mode

Select by holding the PLAY button and moving the yellow FILE encoder until the PLAY LED is alternating blue and red. Make sure no CV is attached to the CV in jack.

• Each trigger initiates playback of the next file in ONE's file list.
• File list is specified by creating a playlist.txt file.

Combo Mode

Select by holding the PLAY button and moving the yellow FILE encoder until the PLAY LED is purple (quickly alternating blue and red). Make sure no CV is attached to the CV in jack.

• Combination of Looping and Sequence modes.
• File continuously loops until next incoming trigger.
• Incoming trigger advances to next file in sequence, immediately starts looping playback of new file.

Free Pitch Mode

Select by holding the PLAY button and moving the white CV knob until the PLAY LED is lit solid red. Make sure no CV is attached to the CV in jack.

• Playback rate is not quantized.
• Approximately 3.5 octave range.
• As pitch gets lower and playback speed gets longer and longer, the attack part of the sound gets longer and the onset of the sound is delayed.

Quantized Pitch Mode

Select by holding the PLAY button and moving the white CV knob until the PLAY LED is lit solid blue. Make sure no CV is attached to the CV in jack.

• CV selects playback rate corresponding to speeds/pitches within the 12 tone equal temperament scale.
• The CV in jack is not 1V/Oct but since it internally gets quantized, an external quantizer is unnecessary.
• Approximately 3.5 octave range.
• As pitch gets lower and playback speed gets longer and longer, the attack part of the sound gets longer and the onset of the sound is delayed.

File Select Mode

Select by holding the PLAY button and moving the white CV knob until the PLAY LED is lit flashing red. Make sure no CV is attached to the CV in jack.

• CV points to a file in the card. New triggers load that file.
• CV acts as an offset added to the FILE selection encoder. When CV is at 0V, the position of the encoder is used.
• Changes are only applied when new trigger arrives, so a new file can be selected via CV without affecting playback. The next trigger will activate the new sound.
• Latency increases in this mode due to access time needed for finding and loading new file.

Playlists

• File must be called playlist.txt with no capitals and must be a plain text file.
• playlist.txt should be placed in the root directory of the SD card.
• Each audio file name should be placed on its own line.
• List of file names determines sequence order (as well as the order the samples are loaded onto ONE).
• File names can be up to 13 characters and must be alphanumeric.
• Duplicate file names are allowed for sequencing the same file multiple times.
• Max. 256 files in the list.
• If a file is in the list but not on the card, ONE will stop scanning at that point and just use the files before the error.

Settings

A configuration file can be added to the SD card that tells ONE how it needs to boot up.

• File should be called config.txt and must be a plaintext file placed in the root directory of the SD card.
• First must be a comment beginning with a #.
• Second line sets the playback mode: "Trigger", "Gate", "Fade", "Looping", "Sequence".
• Third line sets the CV mode: "Free", "Quantize", "Select File".
• Fourth line sets the CV delay: "Short", "Medium", "Long".
• Subsequent lines ignored, can be used for comments.
• Parameters' first letter must be capitalized.
